Interstate/International Patients

Leading Vascular Surgeon and Hyperhidrosis Specialist, Roger Bell , has performed ETS surgery for over 15 years and has vast experience in treating patients with hyperhidrosis and facial blushing. North Western Vascular Surgery can organise ETS, lumbar sympathectomy or Miradry in Melbourne. Mr Bell has treated patients from all over Australia with ETS surgery for excessive sweating or facial blushing as well as Miradry treatment for sweaty underarms. We also welcome international patients who wish to have treatment in Australia.

For sweaty hands, ETS provides the solution with 100% dry hands as well as being suitable for patients with facial blushing. Lumbar sympathectomy will stop feet from sweating. MiraDry is the preferred treatment of choice for people bothered by underarm sweating and/or odour.

Patients travelling to Melbourne should arrive at Melbourne Airport as our Moonee Ponds office is approximately 13km away. Patients undergoing MiraDry can return home the same day. Patients undergoing ETS will need to be in Melbourne for a minimum of 3 nights as ETS requires patients to stay in hospital overnight. Lumbar sympathectomy will require a longer stay in Melbourne. Full details can be obtained from our staff.

FAQs

Do I have to come to Melbourne for a consultation before the procedure?

No, although a consultation must be done before proceeding to ETS or lumbar sympathectomy and this can be completed via Skype consultation which is a service we provide for our interstate or international patients. Skype consultations are bulk billed for patients with a Medicare card.

Is a GP referral required?

Yes, a GP referral is required for interstate patients. This is valid for 12 months from the date of issue. International patients may not require a referral for claiming however it is best to have a letter from a doctor.

How long can I expect to be in Melbourne?

Generally, three nights is the least amount of time you can expect to stay in Melbourne. For example, if you were to have surgery on a Tuesday then you can arrive in Melbourne on the day of surgery and proceed to the hospital for admission. You are then required to stay in the hospital overnight and therefore only require accommodation for the Wednesday and Thursday night with check out on Friday morning. You must then attend our office at 59 Holmes Road for a post-operative check-up with Mr Bell before being free to travel. This appointment can be between 9:00am and 12:15pm.

Will I need a follow-up appointment prior to my departure?

Yes, a follow-up appointment is essential to check your progress after surgery. Patients undergoing MiraDry can return home the same day.

Can my local doctor remove the sutures?

Yes, your local doctor can remove the sutures which will need to be removed approximately one week following surgery. If you are still in Melbourne at this time, you can attend one of our locations to have the sutures removed at no charge as part of the post-operative care provided.
